Auto insurance is a legal requirement for motorists in every state in the US. But, on close examination, you will quickly see that mandatory minimum requirements vary from state to state, and the whole process can appear rather confusing. There are several universal factors to take into account regarding this, but first, let’s acquaint ourselves with the minimum legal coverage requirements for Kentucky.

The minimum levels are set by the government, and there is nothing you can do to alter this. In Kentucky, this means you must carry a minimum of $25,000 for single bodily injury, $50,000 for total bodily injury, including death-as well as $10,000 of coverage for property damage resulting from any accident you cause.

Motorists in Kentucky may also opt to take out something called ‘The Single Limit Plan. This plan provides coverage for liability up to $60,000.

Drivers should also consider whether making initial savings on cover are worth the long-term risks. For example, uninsured/underinsured coverage is not a legal requirement in Kentucky, it may well be worth considering some level of coverage. It ensures that you will receive support in case an accident exceeds your minimum liability coverage.

There are other practical steps you can take to ensure that you are not paying excessively for your premiums. The first point, especially for first-time buyers, is don’t accept the first quote you are given. There are many different insurance companies, and all of them evaluate applicants according to different criteria ratings. As a result, you will very likely get 6 different quotes from 6 different companies. So shop around and don’t settle until you are happy.

Also, another factor that is well within your control is to make sure that you maintain a clean driving record, as most insurance companies place significant weight on this. A good record over a long period will mark you out as a low risk, and you will therefore get a low rate. Make sure also that you pay your premium well before the due date, and also do the same with other bills, especially credit cards, as your credit history will also be a determining factor in the amount you will pay for a premium. Be sure to search online for all options available to you to find the lowest rates possible and ensure that you’re able to take advantage of these discounts and get the best deal for your money each month.

If you’ve recently lost your job in Kentucky, the state can support you for about half a year. That’s 26 weeks, more or less. That should be enough time to find a regular job; otherwise, you may file for an extension if they would allow that for your case.

Qualify!

All unemployment bureaus require their valid claimants to be qualified for the coveted benefits. It allows people to be equitably dealt with. First, your wage for your base period should have reached at least $750. The second requirement is that you’re not slouching at home, mucking over your life. You must be actively looking for another source of income.

In addition, you must show that you’re quite capable of working as an able-bodied worker once again. This is unemployment after all, and not disability. There are other bureaus that handle disability. So let’s make it clearer: file for unemployment benefits if you’ve lost your job but you are able-bodied and are capable of supporting yourself after a period of time.

Registration

Where does one register for the unemployment benefits? Head on over to the Kentucky’s Office for Unemployment and fill out the forms there. It might also be helpful if you talk to the right personnel there and ask just how long the evaluation and approval period is.

Here’s the thing: the Kentucky Office for Unemployment would also refer jobs to the unemployed. Giving away unemployment benefits is not their sole and most important function. So make sure that you check with them for available jobs that you can easily grab so you would be off the benefits as soon as possible.

Documents

Some of the documents that would be required for a valid claim for unemployment benefits include your actual address at home (no P.O. boxes, if possible), your Social Security and of course, details regarding your former employer. Make sure that you give enough information about your former employer.

Will they check whether the former employer does exist? Of course, they would! Will the bureau check whether you were an employee and you earned the minimum amount during a base period? Of course, they would! So don’t mess around with the data. Make sure that you give only accurate data that is verifiable and can be cross-referenced easily with other parties.

On the Net

Remember, these benefits would only be made available to residents coming from Kentucky itself. If you’re working in Kentucky but you’re originally from another state, you might want to check with the bureau whether that’s okay.

As long as you know what you are doing, it is very easy to find yourself cheap Kentucky Auto insurance. You can easily find a rate that is within your range because of the flexibility of insurance plans. It is important to know that it isn’t difficult to find affordable auto insurance; you just have to know how to find it. Although all these principles are quite basic, most people have no idea about them. With this knowledge, you will be able to effectively and quickly find cheap Kentucky auto insurance.

The first step you should take in saving yourself money on your insurance is going to your insurance agent and making sure you are getting all the possible discounts. There are many different discounts out there, and if you work with your agent to give him all the information possible, you will be able to save money each month on your insurance.

If you are a student, you can get a good discount for having a high gpa. You can get a good discount for being in the military. You can also get a discount for having a safe car, for insuring more than one car, and for something as simple as having an email address and an active bank account. One thing that affects your premiums heavily is your deductible. If you decide to set your deductible higher, you will be able to save upwards of a hundred dollars a year. As long as a higher deductible wouldn’t be a huge hit on you, it is always a good idea to raise your deductible.

If you have your car paid off, and it isn’t worth much, you should consider changing the coverage from comprehensive to liability. There is no use paying hundreds of dollars more a year to cover a car that isn’t really worth replacing. However, if you are still paying off your car, this is impossible because most lenders require full coverage.
